What is BIPA and does my business need coverage for it?

The Biometric Information Privacy Act is an Illinois law regulating fingerprints, voiceprints, and face or hand scans. It allows individuals to sue directly, with damages starting at $1,000 per violation. Businesses using fingerprint timeclocks or biometric entry systems should ask how their policies respond to biometric privacy claims. Many standard policies exclude them.
