Do I need a certificate of insurance (COI) for my food truck?

In nearly every case, yes. A certificate of insurance is the one-page document that proves your commercial food truck insurance is active. It is the document venues ask to see.

Festivals, event organizers, commissary kitchens, and many cities require a COI before you can operate on their property. Some cities, like Chicago, write the requirement into their municipal code. Most will also ask to be listed as an additional insured, which extends your liability protection to them for the event.

Keep digital and printed copies accessible, because a missing COI can cost you a booking even when your coverage is in force.
